She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Riga Technical University in 1979, but after only a few years in an architecture firm, she realised this was not her path. Her brief research into Latvian ethnographic architecture was more engaging; however, from 1991 onwards, Inta Sarkane fully dedicated herself to graphic design, focusing primarily on art publications. She cooperates with publishing houses Neputns, Dienas Grāmata, and Zinātne, as well as with the Latvian National Opera, etc. For many years (1993–2021), she also collaborated with Latvijas Banka, digitising images of coins and banknotes for publication, designing advertisements, and creating layouts for booklets, catalogues, annual reports, and other publications.
Inta Sarkane has been nominated for the Golden Apple Tree Award several times. She has received the award in the category Art Publications for the album Julius Fedders (2013).
