Sergiy Maidukov was born in 1980, in Donetsk, Ukraine.
He studied economy in Donetsk University of Economics and Trade (1997–2002)
In 2006, he moved to Kyiv and started to work in an American IT company as a designer, later UX designer.
From 2009 to 2013, he attended academical drawing courses as open faculty under the auspices of the National Academy Of Fine Arts And Architecture.
He started drawing illustrations in 2011, then later, in 2014, he focused on editorial illustration and poster graphics.
He now works with The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Financial Times, The New York Times, ZEIT, The Economist and many others, inter alia preparing cover illustrations.
In 2021, he designed the window cases of TSUM showglasses in Kiev.
In 2021, IST Publishing published his artbook KYIV.
In 2021, the artist was included on the list of 30 independent people of Ukraine published by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and dedicated to 30th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence in 2021.
Before Russia's war in Ukraine, he had been leading illustration workshops and lectures, he took part in exhibitions and had one personal exhibition as well.
Sergiy Maidukov now works on war documental illustrations for his forthcoming second book.
Volunteering and with an aim to do documental illustrations on site he visited Irpin and Bucha in the first days after their liberation, Kharkiv and oblast during the siege in summer 2022, Bakhmut (including the frontline) in late September, Izium and other cities and places.
Two of his works are on constant expositions in two Ukrainian state art museums.
In 2022, he judged 3x3 international Illustration competition. He will also be one of the judges in ADC world Illustration competition.
His work has gained recognition in several international competitions:
AOI – longlist (2020);
AIGA Eye on Design – shortlist (2020);
American Illustration (AI-AP) – Selected Illustrator (2021);
3x3 Professional Illustration Show – Silver medal (2022).
Josef Binder's Award – Golden award in the Book Illustration category for the book “KIIV” (2022)
